Home Depot Sales Comp Growth Driven Entirely by Inflation

Home improvement retailer notes decline in transactions.

August 24, 2022

Home Depot (HD) reported an increase of 4.1% in total comparable sales for the first six months of FY22. The increase, according to the company’s latest filing, is entirely due to ticket size rather than transactions.

Home Depot’s comparable sales— which excludes the recent HD Supply acquisition— included a 10.0% increase in comparable average ticket partially offset by a 5.7% decrease in comparable customer transactions. The company blamed the decline in transactions on the absence of the prior period’s good weather and government stimulus.
